The T Narasipura police registered a suo motu case against former MP Pratap Simha and others in connection with an alleged provocative speech during the Shobha Yatra Ganesha idol immersion procession on Friday.

He was booked for allegedly making provocative remarks against the police and disturbing communal harmony.

The case was registered at the T Narasipura police station on Saturday after a PSI filed a complaint alleging that Simmha made derogatory remarks over a microphone targeting inspector Dhananjay during the Ganesha idol procession on Friday

Police said the slogans had the potential to disturb public peace, promote hatred and animosity between communities, and hurt religious sentiments.

Meanwhile, BJP sources reacted to this case stating that this is not the first case registered againstPratap Simha.

The Ganesha idol immersion procession passed off peacefully on Friday, with hundreds of right-wing activists taking part in the procession and a Dalit organisation holding a harmony march to promote communal unity after a weeklong stand-off between the two.  

Dalit activists led by Urilinga Peddi Mutt Jnanaprakash Swamiji also took out a communal harmony procession around noon on the same day, while right-wing activists began the procession at 4pm. Even though right-wing activists burst crackers in front of a mosque, there was no problem as cops controlled the situation.
